Catapults & Cookies

This week we studied the letter C, the sight word “like” and 1 Peter 5:7 which says, “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”
We started out the week with a new letter activity!

It’s funny to see the sons of a puppeteer; they turn everything into a puppet!  Branden is a professional puppeteer 🙂  He writes scripts, makes characters out of foam and fabric, and travels the country teaching people how to talk to kids about Jesus using puppets.  He’s pretty amazing 🙂

Cutting practice with our new Bible verse

I love seeing their little hands at work 🙂

Then it was time for cookies!  The boys love to help in the kitchen, measuring, pouring, covering themselves in flour…they LOVE to help!!

Mixing time 🙂

Then it was cookie sheet time.  All Ethan heard was “grab chunks of dough and smash it on the cookie sheet!”

15 minutes in the oven, 5 minutes on the cooling rack, and they were ready to eat!!
Oh, yeah, I’m a big fan of stacking one dessert on top of another 🙂

For our last day this week, we made catapults.  These were seriously one of the easiest (and best loved!) crafts we’ve made so far!  And of course we asked some friends to join us for catapult day 🙂  If you’d like to make some, here’s what you’ll need for each one:
a block of wood (pretty much any size)
a clothespin
one jumbo craft stick
one bottle cap
a hot glue gun and glue
crumpled up pieces of foil or paper for launching
Step 1:  Glue the clothespin to the edge of the block of wood

Step 2:  Glue the craft stick to the clothespin.  We put the glued end right about where the piece of metal is on the clothespin.

Step 3:  Glue the bottle cap to the other end of the craft stick

Pretty simple, right?  I was skeptical at first as to how well these would work, but they actually did great!

We took them outside for some foil launching fun!  That’s my friend Ashley, awesome mom and expert catapult maker 🙂
After the other kiddos got bored with flinging shiny pieces of ammo all over the yard, Silas continued to perfect his skills

Ethan could only shoot the foil backwards, usually hitting himself in the face.  It’s a good thing foil doesn’t hurt that bad!

And of course we ended the day with popsicles on the porch!  We’ll probably do that again later for the letter P 🙂

Well, that was our “C” week, kept us busy since Branden was out of town all week, you know, doing that professional puppeteer thing 🙂
We had fun!  Next week, doughnuts and drawing lessons!!
