First week – done!
Hello sweet Friends 🙂 Just wanted to post some pics from our first week
of homeschool; we made it!!!
Day 1 – We introduced what we would focus on this week. It definitely helped to have Branden home for our first day! What would I do without that guy?!
What I am probably most excited about when thinking about homeschool, is the discipleship of our children. It just makes a mama so happy to hear her 2 and 3 year old quoting scripture! Every week we’ll study a Bible verse and use actions to memorize it. Actually, during this week, I thought, why not use actual sign language? Double duty!! Here are a couple shots of the boys copying actions Branden is teaching them for our verse:
“In your anger, do not sin.” – Ephesians 4:26
The boys making “angry faces!”
Practicing using scissors – it’s harder than it looks!
Handwriting practice
Day 2 – Art time! The kids started out with some painting – their favorite 🙂
This kid is really expressive with his face :oP
After the paint dried, I cut out animal silhouettes and glued them to scrapbooking paper. Get it? A for Animals? I think it turned out cute! Also, I was going to crop this picture, but then I realized you wouldn’t be able to see their “shooters” on my couch.
Yes, my heart is very happy to have boys 🙂
Okay, there was more handwriting on the 3rd day and also today (Friday), but I thought that might make for boring pics, so I skipped to my favorite part of our week –
today’s science experiment!
Let me say first though, that this is the usual response when I ask for a picture. That’s right, I whip out my camera and these two forget how to control their faces. I’m not kidding, this is the best of the three pictures I got!
We used this experiment to talk about how anger can get out of control. If you want to recreate it, you’ll need: white vinegar, dish soap, food coloring, baking soda, a clear container,
a spoon and space that you don’t mind getting messy.
For us that was outside on my $3 garage sale kid table!
First fill your container half full with the vinegar
Add a good squirt of soap and food coloring. I told the boys that the vinegar/soap mix represents us. The food coloring represented anger (which was cool because the drops of color quickly tainted the whole cup of liquid)
Mix it up.
Okay, now by the time I took these pics, we had already done the experiment once and the boys knew what to expect. Here are their concerned faces, waiting for the chemical reaction 🙂 I told them that the baking soda was like sin. Anger by itself is not sinful, but when uncontrolled and not given to the Lord, our anger can get out of control!
I love Ethan’s face here!
I’m just going to say that I really expected the boys to love this experiment, all messy and out of control. No, they we completely freaked out by the chemical reaction and had to physically move themselves once the foaming liquid started overflowing out of the cup!
Don’t touch little brother!!
They decided to watch from a safe distance 🙂
Okay, I have decided to wait on posting lesson plans, just because I don’t know that it’s truly benefiting anyone other than myself and also I am learning that the lessons I mapped out are going to need some tweaking (it was good to see how the kids responded to what I had planned, and how I need to adjust things). If by chance you do want to take a peek and see what we are going to do before the week starts, please let me know and I’ll gladly send the info your way! Other than that, I’ll try to be faithful to post weekly pics of what we did!
Thanks for following along 🙂
Also, just a heads up, there is some BIG news coming photography wise, so stay tuned!! Blessings!
